Siena is notoriously a city of art, its history is lost in the mists of time, since the early Middle Ages it has been a city that has had illustrious people, famous painters who today we study in art history texts, such as Duccio di Boninsegna, Simone Martini and the Lorenzetti brothers.
Architects such as  Andrea and Lippo Vanni and then  Popes from noble Sienese families, see Pius II at the registry office  Aeneas Silvio Piccolomini or Alexander VII Chigi.
Siena was also home to saints known throughout the world: Saint Catherine, today the patron saint of Siena and Italy and Saint Bernardino, tireless preacher of the word of Christ in every most hidden corner of man's life.  
Everything can be read in the walls of this old city which fortunately has managed to keep its vestiges almost intact.
Walking through its streets you can still breathe an ancient air that is not  you will forget and which you will only be able to find in a few places, cities or small villages but  who, like Siena, have made history.
